About Uit in Huis

Leeuwarden's cultural organizations are opening their doors to showcase what they have in store for the new season. And the best part? It's completely free!

Discover, experience, and participate

Uit in Huis is the joint kick-off of the cultural season in Leeuwarden. Dozens of cultural organizations open their doors to showcase what is in store for the coming season. Visitors can enjoy free introductions to theaters, museums, music, art, workshops, and performances. Uit in Huis is not just about watching, but about discovering, experiencing, and participating. For participating organizations, it is an opportunity to tell their story. For visitors, it is a moment to be curious, try something new, and discover everything that cultural Leeuwarden has to offer.

The open day for art and culture

What makes Uit in Huis special is that it is not a festival at a single location. The entire city center of Leeuwarden serves as the backdrop. Visitors can create their own route and follow it at their own pace. This is an accessible way to discover places and activities you might otherwise never consider. It is an invitation to explore new spots, have unexpected experiences, and meet the people who create and facilitate culture.

Working together to make culture accessible

Uit in Huis is an initiative of Dolci (Directors' Consultation of Leeuwarden Cultural Institutions). More than thirty cultural organizations work together to make culture accessible to a wide audience and to inspire residents to visit a performance, exhibition, concert, or course even after this open day. By pooling knowledge, programs, and locations, an event is created every year that shows just how vibrant and versatile the cultural sector in Leeuwarden is.
